Fisk Duo, Stillman's Powell win Week 6 HBCUAC Volleyball Honors
NEW ORLEANS - September 23, 2024 - After knocking off the defending conference champion, Fisk University athletes Reagan Jones wins Historically Black Colleges and Universities Athletic Conference (HBCUAC) Attacker of the Week, Trinity Britt wins Setter of the Week, and Emily Powell of Stillman College claims Defender of the Week for matches played between September 16-22, the conference announced on Monday.
Jones, who claimed her fourth weekly honor, recorded double-doubles in a five-set victory over Talladega College, which avenged last season's championship loss and in a five-set match against Cumberland University. She recorded 16 kills and 12 receptions against Talladega and 16 kills and 30 receptions against Cumberland. Jones leads the HBCUAC with 271 kills and 309 points, which ranks fifth and sixth in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), respectively.
Britt claims her fifth Setter of the Week award. She recorded three double-doubles in four matches last week. Britt recorded over 30 assists in five-set matches against Talladega College and Cumberland. She leads the HBCUAC and ranks eighth in the NAIA with 609 assists. Britt is third in the conference with 165 digs. Fisk is tied with Dillard University for first place in the HBCUAC.
Powell wins her second Defender of the Week award. She tallied 41 digs for an average of 5.13 per set, helping the Tigers to an HBCUAC victory over Oakwood University. Powell ranks second in the conference with 4.20 digs per set.
