Wilberforce, Huston-Tillotson take Week 11 HBCUAC Baseball Honors
NEW ORLEANS - Wilberforce University designated hitter and outfielder Christopher Alcantra-Diaz wins Historically Black Colleges and Universities Athletic Conference (HBCUAC) Baseball Player of the Week. Third baseman Junior Veras Vasquez claims Freshman of the Week. Huston-Tillotson University pitcher Weston Bailey garners Pitcher and Newcomer of the Week. They were honored for their performance between April 6-12, the conference announced Monday.
Alcantra-Diaz hit .647, scored 10 runs and drove in 19 runs in six games. Most of his production was against Oakwood University, where he recorded 10 hits in 11 at-bats and hit two of his three home runs for the week. He drove in 15 of his 19 runs. His performance helped the Bulldogs close in on a spot in the HBCUAC Baseball Championship. For the week, Alcantra-Diaz slugged 1.1353.
Bailey shutout the Bleu Devils and struck out a career-high 10 batters. He only gave up four hits and two walks to win his sixth consecutive start. Bailey is tied for second in the conference with six wins. It is his second shutout this season.
Veras Vasquez finished the week on a four-game hitting streak, recording multiple hits in each contest. For the week he hit .556, including .800 (8-for-10) in the three game series against Oakwood. He scored nine runs and brought home 14. He hit four home runs for a 1.333 slugging percentage.

About the HBCU Athletic Conference
The HBCU Athletic Conference (HBCUAC) is the only HBCU conference in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). The HBCUAC membership includes Dillard University (LA), Fisk University (TN), Huston-Tillotson University (TX), Oakwood University (AL), Paul Quinn College (TX), Philander Smith University (AR), Rust College (MS), Southern University at New Orleans (LA), Stillman College (AL), Talladega College (AL), Tougaloo College (MS), University of the Virgin Islands (St. Thomas), Voorhees University (SC), Wilberforce University (OH), and Wiley University (TX).
