Huston-Tillotson, Wiley claim Week 2 HBCUAC Men's Soccer Weekly Honors
NEW ORLEANS - September 8, 2025 - Huston-Tillotson University's Manuel Guevara garners Historically Black Colleges and Universities Athletic Conference Offensive and Freshman Player of the Week. Wiley University's Kevin Nievas repeats as Defensive Player of the Week. Ian Hernandez takes home Newcomer of the Week. The men were honored for their performances between September 1 and 7, the conference announced on Monday.
Guevara scored the game-tying and game-winning goals in a 3-1 victory over Texas Lutheran on Tuesday. For the week, he put up 10 shots with three on goal and helped the Rams win two out of three matches.
Nievas made one save which was key to preserving a 2-1 victory over Jarvis Christian University. It was his second victory of the season. Nievas ranks second in the conference with a .692 save percentage.
Hernandez made a downfield pass to set up a goal by Aaron Castillo, which gave the Wildcats a two-goal lead. His performance helped the Wildcats get off to their best start since 2017.

The HBCU Athletic Conference (HBCUAC) is the only HBCU conference in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA).
