Dillard's Weatherspoon, Landry claim Week 2 HBCUAC Softball Weekly Awards
NEW ORLEANS - February 18, 2025 - Dillard University softball player Haley Weatherspoon wins Historically Black Colleges and Universities Athletic Conference (HBCUAC) Softball Player of the Week and Mary-Elizabeth Landry garners Pitcher of the Week. The athletes were honored for their performances between February 10-16.
Weatherspoon hit .600, scored five runs and drove in five in a three-game series against Arlington Baptist University. She had three hits and three runs in the first game on Friday followed by two hits, including a triple, and two runs in Game 2. Weatherspoon ranks second in the conference with five stolen bases and third with a .471 batting average.
Landry picked up a win and earned a save against Arlington Baptist. In the first game on Friday, she held the Patriots to two runs on three hits and struck out three. She pitched a scoreless inning and struck out one to preserve an 8-6 victory in Game 2. She struck out six in the finale. Landry leads the HBCUAC with 13 strikeouts.
