Talladega pair, Fisk's Britt win Week 3 HBCUAC Volleyball Honors
NEW ORLEANS - September 2, 2024 - Talladega College's Franchesca Rivas wins Historically Black Colleges and Universities Athletic Conference Attacker of the Week, and Briyith Echeverri claims HBCUAC Defender of the Week. Fisk University's Trinity Britt takes home her third consecutive HBCUAC Setter of the Week award for matches played between August 26 and September 1, the conference announced on Monday.
Rivas made a strong debut for the Tornadoes during the Talladega College Tournament, dominating both offensively and defensively. She led all attackers with 57 kills for an average of 4.07 per set. Rivas recorded a double-double with 24 kills and 14 digs against Truett-McConnell. Her performance helped Talladega go 3-1.
Echeverri, the Preseason HBCUAC Player of the Year, led the team with 67 digs for an average of 4.79 per set. She only made five receiving errors in 94 receptions for a .947 receive percentage.
Britt was superb in setting up Fisk hitters, averaging 8.50 assists per set. She had at least 30 assists in three of the five matches. Britt recorded two double-doubles with 33 assists and 10 digs in a non-conference match against Tougaloo College and 42 assists and 11 digs against Tennessee Southern University. The Gainsville, Florida native is currently the top setter in the conference in total assists (378) and is second behind teammate Nialah Gupton in total digs (111).
